Nick Melvoin has spent his career fighting for local students and families. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Harvard,
Nick came back to serve as a teacher at Markham Middle School in Watts. While teaching, he earned a master’s degree in
education at night from Loyola Marymount before going to NYU Law School on a Civil Rights fellowship. As an educator and
advocate, Nick has focused on putting students and families first by improving transparency, increasing family and community
engagement, and providing our students and teachers the resources they need. He believes that together, we can ensure that
every student in L.A. has the chance to succeed.
On the school board, Nick fought to safely reopen schools, provide devices and internet access for every student in
LAUSD, and provide resources for underserved families across Los Angeles. And as the director of the non-profit summer
program Camp Harmony, Nick helps unhoused children in-need develop positive self-esteem and critical skills they need all year
round. Nick Melvoin is the leader we need on the L.A. School Board.
