Biography
I have lived in Lakewood and our new District 1 for most of my life. I attended Madison Elementary and learned to swim and play sports at Bolivar Park. Sally and I were married in the backyard of our first home at Del Amo Bl and Deeboyar Ave. We raised our boys here.
I spent 32 years with the LA County Sheriff's Department, retiring as the third in command. Part of my responsibilities included managing the department's $3.3 billion budget which I never failed to balance.
I led the effort to create a Lakewood Unified School District and founded the Lakewood Education Foundation which has donated $638,000 directly to Lakewood classrooms.
It has been my honor to serve as your mayor and council member and I will continue to fiercely protect Lakewood as a place you are proud to call home and raise your kids.

Political Beliefs
Political Philosophy
Serving you as a member of the Lakewood City Council has been one of the highest honors of my life. Being elected and re-elected has been humbling and exhilarating. Unlike some career politicians who see their election as an opportunity to "govern" and pursue their own priorities, I feel it is my responsibility to serve and represent YOUR priorities. I need to be your voice at city hall and an advocate for making your lives better and not more difficult.
We have seen the outcomes of having politicians at various levels of government who are ill-prepared to lead during a crisis. As you know, I recently served consecutive terms as mayor during some of the worst times in our city's history,...the height of the pandemic and the social unrest and looting that came to Lakewood. I drew from my many years as a Lakewood resident and law enforcement officer, to lead us through it with transparency and strength. I hope I made you proud.
