Currently, Lynwood City Councilmembers may serve no more than two (2) consecutive four-year terms on the Lynwood City Council. Accordingly, due to this term limit restriction there is the potential for change in the City Council at almost every election.
Measure R will limit Councilmembers to serve no more than three consecutive four-year terms in office. The completion of any unexpired term to which a person was elected or appointed shall not be considered a term for the purpose of calculating consecutive terms served.
As required by California law, this measure will apply prospectively only to those terms of office which commence on or after November 1, 2022. No previous term of office for an existing Councilmember, or the term of office of any Councilmember elected to the City Council at the November 2022 election, will count toward the term limitation. The new term limits rules will first apply to those Councilmembers elected or re-elected to the City Council in the November
2022 regular election and thereafter.
