Satra Zurita is a proud product of the Compton Unified School District. Satra began her community service as an early teen, volunteering in the Compton Meals On Wheels Program, which was directed by her mother for 43 years. She served as their volunteer fundraiser for 22 years. Satra began her career in priviate enterprise and later transitioned into an expanding career within her community. In December 2020, after 28 years, she retired from the City of Compton as a Senior Administrative Analyst with the Compton Water Department, where she was a dues paying member, who held 3 terms as Vice President, of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. She was the Film Permits Coordinator and held other positions in key departments. Satra was General Manager of the Compton Ramada Hotel & Convention Center, managed the Compton Convention & Visitor's Bureau, managed the Federal Aviation Administrative Copy & Mail Center and the US Air Force Mail Room in El Segundo, California. She is currently a businesswoman who is self-employed as a consultant and Notary Public.
Satra has completed certificate programs and undergraduate studies at UC Irvine, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Loyola Marymount and Long Beach State. She holds certificates in Meeting Planning, Convention Service Management and Special Event Coordination from California State University Long Beach.
One of Satra's most rewarding accomplishments is co-founding the Annual Compton Walk for a Cure Breast Cancer Awareness Event, which is the largest and most attended free outdoor wellness festival in the City of Compton and surrounding areas. She is a Charter and founding Board of Governors member for CABSE (California Association of Black School Educators), a past 3 term member of the Delegate Assembly for CSBA, currently on the Board of Rosecrans Senior Manor, and is a Lifetime Member of the NAACP. She has received numerous awards including the Water Replenishment District's "WOW" (Woman of Water) Award, 2011 LACDP 64th Assembly District Woman of the Year, a Special Congressional Recognition as a Vehicle of Change, the Delta Sigma Theta Compton Alumnae Chapter Woman of the Year Award, as well as many other outstanding achievement awards from various community organizations.
