My Top 3 Priorities
I will continue to center work around equity for all our students and will continue to uphold our equity and excellence policy. The policy passed last year was constructed in collaboration with a committee of community members and staff.
I will continue to work on our student outcome focused board governance effort. Our board has been working with the Council of Great City Schools on board governance to improve student outcomes with board-led efforts.
I will continue to support our superintendent and staff in the day-today operations of the district. This work includes oversight of a billion dollar plus budget and management of over 80 school sites.

Core Values and How they Relate to the Role of Board Member
Summary
Being a board member dodesn't require one to be an expert on education, but it does require certain core values.
Each of us have a set of values that guide our lives both professionally and personally. These core values inform the quality of our decision making process and ultimately how we perform our job duties. I believe the following values and behaviors are necessary in being an effective leader and board member.
As board members we have a responsibility to foster a relationship based on respect and trust not just with our colleagues and staff, but also with our community. We understand our role as board members in allowing staff to manage the day-to-day operations of the school district without interference. We build relationships with our community by inviting their engagement and making decisions with input provided. We engage with students, staff, advocacy groups and community leaders.
A supportive board member is one who is engaged and participates in school-related events, school visits and community functions. We support students by attending their activities and show up for staff to show we care. We provide direction and vision through leadership in support of the district's mission.
The skill of active listening is essential to learning other's opinions and needs. In order to find out what is important to others we must avail ourselves by attending community meetings, parent forums and other opportunities in support of our role as liasons between families and the district. Being responsive to parents and community members who reach out via email or phone calls is also imperative in offering support. We are elected to be a bridge between families and the district and to advocate for their needs.
The most important aspect of our work is to center all students with compassion and the expectation that the quality of education we provide will prepare them for their future success.
